Welcome to Fates!

We've restructured our rules page to make it easier for you to understand how to best play the game. The flow of your reading will follow the course of a player just starting out on Fates, beginning with submitting a join application. The subcontent window (look up a little bit) contains the Table of Contents in case you want to skip to a particular topic.

Please read the rules completely before you try to join -- knowing the rules forwards and backwards will save you time through the course of the game and make you more successful. Plus there's a quiz when you try to join!

 Overview

Fates is an online RPG in the Dragon Ball world.Unlike most RPGs, Fates uses extremely advanced technology to let you do anything you want to (your in-game status permitting), whenever you want to! Everything is done entirely on the site -- you never have to send an email to anyone if you don't want to. Once you've joined the site, log in with your character name and chosen password, and you'll be able to learn attacks, travel, battle, spar, join alliances, set bounties, and tons more. Everything you do will be updated on every page site-wide instantly!

What's more, your Action Log records it all so you can always look back to see what you (or your opponents) have been up to. Your Action Log is also sortable, which means that if you click on the name of one of its columns, the whole log will be sorted based on the values in that column. Most pages on the site are viewable this way, including the Locations page (sort by character name or power), the Attacks page (sort by location, race, stat), the Items page (sort by money, location, name), and many more!

On an interesting note, we have removed exact finishing times entirely from Fates. That means you won't know exactly how long it takes to complete your journey from Yardat to Kaoshin, or to finish learning your KaMeHaMeHa Wave (attack times are given in estimates like Medium, Very Long, Extreme, etc). We decided that it would make the game more interesting and fun to have cool color-coded progress bars (which are updated in real-time!) track your status. By keeping your eye on how fast the bar advances, you can still get a good idea of when you're going to finish. Once the game goes online we think you'll agree with us that this way is way more fun!

Whenever something happens to your character, you'll be notified through Fates' MyAlerts system! Fates' MyAlerts system will let you know right away (if you're on the site) if anything important happens to you. So if you're browsing your rival alliance's members and someone starts a fight against you, you'll be notified so you can to respond immediately in whatever way you want to! Open your MyAlerts page from the "MyAlerts" button in the "+Navigation" section of the menu.

Be sure to take advantage of the menu's +Navigation and Alerts & Messages section. One useful thing they allow you to do is to refresh the main page or the subcontent area without having to refresh your whole browser -- this is really useful! You can also use it to Report a Bug, should you find one, to check or send a FatesMessage (more on that soon), or to read MyAlerts.

Are you a Fates veteran? Take a look at what's new with this version. Almost every in-game mechanic has been changed significantly. We've also added quite a few totally new features. The result is that Fates now is almost completely different than the last version. Veteran players will also be pleased to know that the old Fates system of emailing you whenever your player completes an action has been removed and replaced with MyAlerts! The security system has also been beefed up considerably to prevent cheating (more details on this in the next section).

In addition, Fates now includes a built-in instant messaging system called FatesMessaging, or FM for short. Using the Alerts & Messages section of the menu, you can quickly and easily check or send a FM to any player you want! When you recieve a message you will be alerted immediately. FMs are saved for 7 days before being deleted.

Fates also now has in effect a Players Online feature which displays a list of the players active on the site within the last five minutes. You'll even recieve an alert if your rival or someone you're observing (more on these things later) comes online! You can access the Players Online from a link at the very bottom of each page that says N Players Online, where N is a continuously updated count of the active players on Fates.

Before we get into how the game works, you should read this important notice about cheating. The last Fates suffered considerably due to a number of players cheating. Cheating consists of:

  • Joining as more than one character.
  • Logging in as your character on a computer where another character has logged in.
Because of the cheating during the last version of the game, the second cheating condition has been implemented. This means you won't be able to log in from a friends house or your computers at school if someone else already has (with a different character). Its ok for you to log in on any computer you want as long as no one else who plays Fates has logged in from there. We're sorry, but we feel this is essential to prevent people from cheating. Fates' security system automatically detects cheaters and locks their characters until an administrator can take a further look. In other words, cheaters will be caught right away and dealt with harshly. Punishment will usually be permanent banning.
